There have been a number of occasions where I've had jobs where MC cable is NOT to be used.  In it's place they would like a flexible conduit w/thhn.  Unfortunately, there's no design spec that will allow this.  

For instance:  I've created most of my lighting assemblies using a MC cable whip (usually 12/2awg w/ground)

When MC cable is not allowed, there's no way to add a design spec to change the MC cable over to FLEX w/THHN.  Yes, I could create all new assemblies using FLEX, but I would think that maybe there's a way for the something to be tweaked in the design spec to allow for this switch to happen.  Unfortunately, the way design spec works now, it won't convert over.

For instance, when using a simple design spec to change the 6ft of MC to Flexible with THHN inside, the sequence goes as follows:

Convert 6ft of 12/2 MC w/ground---->6ft.of 3/4 FLEXIBLE CONDUIT

Convert 6ft of 12/2 MC w/ground----->24ft of #12awg of THHN.  

The problem arises when after 1st converting the MC (with wire already inside) over to the flex, by the time it gets to step 2 where the THHN wire needs to be added,  it no longer sees the MC cable in the equation.  Therefore it doesn't add the THHN wire to go inside the flexible conduit.  

I hope that makes sense.  And hopefully there might something that can be done to fix this.  I was working with customer service to come up with a fix, but they were unsuccessful as well.  So they sent me here.
