When adding to an existing DTO item have the program use the selected items symbol not the current one

Quite often you see an item you missed on digital takeoff.  When you add to an existing item the program should know what that item's symbol is and mark the item on the sheet with that symbol not the symbol that may be selected for new items.  I will use a number of different symbols depending on the item I am taking off.  If I select a valve and try to add to that count, currently the program uses the active symbol and not the symbol I used for the valve. We have to go through the mouse clicks to change the active symbol, do our add function, then change the symbol back.  This time can add up on large jobs.
