The stock version of the Balance Sheet report should be laid out differently, specifically the retained earnings line. It shouldn't be shown in one line, but should be shown in two line, with prior year earnings and current year earnings. What is missing is a 'switch', which should take the prior year's retained earnings and then cut it off, then profit goes into the current year's retained earnings, and then grows or shrinks depending on the profit or loss. This is what would be expected to see for any accountant when looking at the Balance Sheet.
