"VENDORS" TO "ENTER PURCHASE ORDER" TO "ITEM DETAIL", TAB, THERE ARE TWO COLUMNS THAT ARE MANDATORY TO BE FILLED IN. (UNIT COST UOM AND QUANTITY UOM). THEY HAVE TO ALWAYS MATCH. IT IS EXTRA TYPING, CAN ONE COLUMN BE DELETED OR DEFAULT TO AVOID TYPING EA, OR FT ETC. TWICE PER EACH LINE? WHETHER THE PO IS SHORT OR LONG IT'S A LOT OF EXTRA TYPING. THIS WILL BENEFIT ANYONE ENTERING PURCHASING ORDERS. THIS WILL SAVE KEY STROKES AND TIME.

This is the current behavior when you are manually entering a Description to identify an item, meaning you have not set up a record in the Item Catalog table that is being pulled in. The Quantity unit of measure and the Unit Cost unit of measure fields are blank and require an entry. Future consideration would be to default the unit of measure value from the one that has been entered. Logically the Quantity unit of measure would be entered first, in which case the Unit Cost unit of measure should default. We would also allow the default the other way as well.
In the short term, a possible solution:
In Materials > Set up:
1. Item Category- set up a category "NONSTOCK' and assign an inventory Valuation of "Non-Stock".
2. Catalog Item - set up a catalog item - "NONSTOCK", enter a value in the Name field, check to Use Item for Purchase Orders, enter the item category "NONSTOCK" and enter the unit of measure that most often represents the quantity you purchase in. Save the record. NOTE: the catalog item can be any value you feel is easiest to help in your selection. It could be as simple as "0", "N", or "EA".
When in Enter Purchase Order, at the Item field, select the item number, and type over the description field for the description of the actual item you are purchasing. The unit of measure value will default into both the Quantity and Unit Cost fields so you only now need to entery the quantity and unit cost.
