When a pay period spans two different months, i.e.; 4-28-16 to 5-4-16 with a check date of 5-6-16, union deductions and fringes are calculated based on check date not dates worked. So, when a unions new wages, fringes & deductions go into effect at the beginning of the month, the days worked in the previous month are calculated at the increased rate causing employers to pay more in fringes and the employee being deducted at a higher rate.
Also, union reports & payments based on check date are especially problematic when a retiree who can only work 39 hours per month, shows up with over 39 because of crossover months and is denied retirement benefits until proven otherwise.

Absolutely agree. If a software as simple as QuickBooks can calculate payroll and associated burden on a day by day basis rather than on pay period ending date or check date, I would expect a software that I spend thousands of dollars for could do the same thing.
I agree. This is extremely frustrating. We end up having to make adjustments to all of the deductions as well as a month end adjusting journal entry to account for the benefits. This should be changed as soon as possible. It is making payroll difficult.
