The only feature I love in Procontractor is the Ease of Entering Payroll.
Right now I have an Excel spreadsheet setup with only the necessary fields. Employee ID, Date Worked, Profit Center, Cost Code, Pay Class, Pay Class Name, Reg Hours, OT Hours, DT Hours, Transaction Type, Work Location. See Attached! That is All I Enter and Payroll pulls perfect.
We have many employees that work on many jobs every week and in multiple task codes. One of my employees can easily have 25 line items. I do not want Payroll to Change!!!
PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE, leave the old ability to create your own spreadsheet and IMPORT in just the information we need!

Here we are at year end and I had to finally bite the bullet and install the new Version. The new import template does not formulas and it has many more required fields than the last. The last template would pull the it's own information from PCMX (ie. Trade Union, Pay Class, Cost Type, Overtime Exempt). I'm starting to think that the import template will be impossible to convert. We will have to revert back to manual entry on time cards starting Monday. Who ever made this decision should be cut from the team.
Got the new upgrade last week. We use the DFR's in the program to create timecards. Any changes that needed to be made could be done within ProContractor. Now all Viewpoint has done is taken what was working in the program itself and shoot it out into a second party program (ie excel) and then import back in the program. This is most un user friendly thing that Viewpoint could have done. This has become extremely cumbersome for us to capture our time. Even if they do the hot fix for the Insurance classification to pull or the payroll accout. The rest of it is downright a pain. Please go back to the DFR's working the way they always did....
I think the most frustrating part of this is that there weren't any suggestions in here to change the Timecard Template. What prompted this change? Why would you go out of the way to change something that works, when there are hundreds of good ideas in this forum to work on. It makes not sense!
If you really cared to fix the Employee Module, you would have figured out a way to adjust timecard entries after posting. Having to move time around by Journal Entry only is a complete joke! Way to make more product worse!
If I could vote this 1000 times I would.
This is awful and we will not be downgrading to 3.9. We have our import template with excel formulas that link to our 3rd party software.
What was wrong with the old way that makes this so much better? To me it seems more problematic than anything.
This is extremely frustrating!
Not sure about you Jeff, but I am still a little confused after the webinar. Why change and take away the DROP DOWN menu's. Those were the best part of the import. Told you and highlighted exactly what the error was! I always half put in the codes and then used the drop downs to complete especially for Holiday pay and other GL field codes that were not used often. This will be more work and more looking in Procontractor to try to find the exact codes, accounts, descriptions or it will keep giving you errors. FUSTRATED! Don't think I will install this until absolutely necessary - YEAR END!
Jeff, That is very helpful. I saved this template excel file so I can play. Thanks for sharing that information. Do you think the yellow and blue field tabs are going to be mandatory? I enter hours by the job, not by the employee.
Jamie - FYI - I chatted about this with support this morning and they forwarded me a beta copy of the new template, also said they put it out in the Downloads section on the ClearView site and in a Knowledgebase article that you can download. So we have an advance/beta look at it, but I fully-agree we'll have a very short window to develop, test and tune functionality between 3.9 Install and first payroll. I remain in the dark about the functionality/format/reason for the extra "General Information" tab.
Jeff, I agree completely and we will not have time to figure out this new importing system. Once installed if they take away the old import we will only have days to try to figure out until payroll will have to be done. I took a lot of time to figure out payroll and importing it in Procontractor before we went live. I will have to devote all of my time to getting this figured out. I am not a fan of the mult-tab that was in the newsletter either. My most important role is to make sure employees are getting paid correctly!!!
I too am concerned about this pending change. We have a working import routine after significant investment of development time, trial and error, troubleshooting, and sequential improvements and refinements to meet procontractor's specific import peculiarities. Not looking forward to re-inventing the wheel and specifically-concerned with the new "multi-tab" format suggested and how that will play with our single-sheet timekeeping export data.
