The mouse has its position recorded when a takeoff key is pressed and is reset to that position when inserting the item into the takeoff is complete. Depending on the size of the estimate this can take several seconds (sometimes up to 10+ sec) to complete. Using "quick takeoff" alleviates this problem to a small degree, but even QTO gets slow in a large estimate.
Ideally the mouse position should never be recorded or set to any position. This makes it feel like the program is “dragging” your mouse around while you are using it. If possible it would be better to record the position of items on mouse press and use that info to write to the table asynchronously so that the user never “feels it” when items are being written to takeoff.
