When purchasing ProContractor, sales touted the program's ability to modify reports and forms to accommodate custom requirements of the user. Although it was (and still is) a struggle to use this "Report Writer", the main deficiency is that there are so many fields that are not available for selection. When I ask about this I am usually offered the solution of having the PC folk write the report for us. This just does not fit with the impression I was given pre-purchase.
Yes, it's true that I submitted this request a year ago (tomorrow) but I wanted to see if I could re-ignite some enthusiasm for it. Here's what I said previously:
It seems like most of the time when I try to find specific information, whether it be Project, Vendor or Customer, the Views do not include the fields that I need. Then when I try to find a report that I can modify, those same fields are not available there either. It would make PCMX so much more useful if it wasn't so hobbled by the narrow selection of fields and would give us the full array of fields that PCMX has in its database.

I have spent hours searching for forms or reports that would have the fields my boss wants to see. I tried the user defined fields in our demo app, what a nightmare they are. I even signed up for two hours of training for them to show me how to do the custom reports. If the fields that you need are not already in the dataset out of the box then the only answer they have is pay us to create your reports. No guarantee that the next update will not break them, but of course they will fix them for you......for a fee.
I've been told the same thing, and when I inquire about User Defined Reports, support tells me I can't do them, to PAY for a custom report from development. Then why have the option in the program??? I have modified SEVERAL reports to save paper and add information and am always stuck with one or two fields that are static fields but are not available to add to my report. We pay 30% MORE per year for PC than we did for Management Suite and it seems that it is not living up to the price or the selling points that we were given for migrating, and several reports that we used daily in Management Suite are no longer an option in PC.
I agree. I asked in another thread that any fields available in a module like Vendors be accessible to customized reports. For example, the Compliance section in the Vendor Setup tab is not available on any vendor reports!
An option to use Chrystal Reports would be awesome for those of us that know how to use it. For those that don't, Viewpoint still needs to re-design their report engines, available fields and the method used sharing reports much more simple.
Bob, I agree 100%. We were also given to understand you could easily modify reports. I have so far not really attempted to modify any as all the fields are not always there. In addition I would love to have reports such as I had in Management Suite, but I was told "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WRITE YOUR OWN REPORTS AS IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT". To me this screams, we will write any report you want as long as you PAY for it. Then there is the question of if you pay to have a report written and they actually make enhancements to the software, are you going to have to pay to have them again to re-write the report. They should have given us the report writing function in something like Crystal Reports where the average person can write a report on their own. Just seems to be another case of GIVE ME MORE MONEY.
