Why aren't the fields able to be typed into directly and the closest match pull up, in particular, into any A/P field? For instance, I may not know the specific vendor name code but I'd like to type "Tile" and have vendors with "Tile" show up so I can choose from that list instead of ALWAYS having to search via the drop down box.
The same goes for the fields under the distribution tab. I'd like to type part of the cost code and the cost type with the field filling in the closest match as there aren't many similar "names".
It is so tedious and time consuming in having to 1) always use a drop down box even with keyboard shortcuts & 2) if you do happen to know the "name" having to type it in FULLY to get the same results instead of it coming back null if you happen to mistype something.
I can't imagine no one else mentioning this especially if they deal with volume daily as it would be a tremendous time reducer.
Thank you for reading.

I would much rather have this than the silly "Close all tabs" that we got last year. This feature would help me a hundred times a day!
Why can't this be planned and implemented? It's 2 years old!
Sorry Sherry, we must have been typing at the same time. I wanted to make sure that anyone that didn't know about the F4, knew it was the F4. And you did as well.
The key that you were referencing is the F4, correct? I have learned that by letting the mouse feel lonely, by not touching it very much, I can go a lot faster.
In the meantime, If you hit the F4 key before you start typing, the drop down menu will pop up. Then start typing the information and it will pre-fill. Use the down arrow to select. Faster than having to click the ...

Once we switched to PC, I told everyone in the office, jokingly of course, not to mention the word Quickbooks anymore. We have made the switch, which is for the better, so going back to Quickbooks is not an option. However, QB did allow you to start typing and it would give you options to choose from, without having to do the lookup. It is slower to go thru the look up, then type in what you want and select it, but I would say that some of our people, while it takes them more time, they make less mistakes doing it this way. I would prefer the QB way myself, but we have also memorized a lot of the codes, which speeds up the process as well.
This is probably the best idea I have seen (been searching all the recommendations) besides mine (haha). Seriously though - this would save alot of time, seems that you already built the code in the search area, just need to add some auto fill features to the main page.
Great suggestion!
This would save a ton of time, and is standard on most current user interfaces. Good suggestion, Lance.
