Located under the Administration Menu, I suggest a new full screen function "ProContractor Performance/Health Status Console."
This console would be filled with speedometers and red/green indicator lights that are measuring a large range of ProContractor metrics in real time. These are the metrics that IT personnel and support staff need to determine the overall health of ProContractor.
The console would be divided into one section for the ProContractor server, and another section for the local workstation.
Suggestions for speedometers include, but are not limited to: CPU Utilization; Memory usage; I/O throughput metrics; LAN speed; SQL server read/write times; Internet upload speed; Internet download speed; ping times to SQL server; number of processes open on server; number of concurrent ProContractor sessions; etc. Other data points include MaxAppDB file size for MDF, LDF, BLOB, and ESTBLOB files. When running ProContractor on a Small Business Server, this tool will capture how much system resources are getting diverted to other duties such as Exchange server, Sharepoint server, domain controller duties, etc.
Some items could be represented as speedometers, and some items could be represented as traffic lights (green yellow red.)
The purpose of the screen would be to provide customer IT staff a one-stop shop to assess the overall system health of ProContractor. For example, a user complains of poor ProContractor performance. Their local ProContractor administrator examines the System Health Console. He sees that the server utilization is low (green light), the server read/write times are excellent (green light). But in the local workstation section, he notices that ping times to server are very high (red light) and local LAN speed is below 1 MB/sec (red light). This information may help him address the issue on his own without creating a support case. Conversely, in situations where the server utilization is very high (red light) and the server read/write times are slow (red light), that would point towards a different resolution path.
The ProContractor Performance/Health Status Console is very necessary tool. Please show your support and vote for this suggestion today.
